Description Bastogne Drop Zone is named after the 101st ABN Division?s heroic and defiant stand at Bastogne, Belgium during WWII. The "Screaming Eagles" were surrounded and repeated attacked by the German Army at Bastogne. When offered the opportunity to surrender, the acting commander, Brig. Gen. Anthony McAuliffe gave the famous reply, "NUTS." Fortunately, the 101st ABN was resupplied by air during the bitter Winter period. Patton?s 3rd Army led the relief operation. Bastogne DZ is still in use.
